Howdy!

This week was awesome! We spent the week doing what we usually do, but we also spent a lot of time getting Jessica ready for her baptism. We finished teaching all the lessons and on Friday our district leader Elder Gonzalez interviewed her. So then on Saturday, we had the baptism. Pictures are included. It was excellent, she was so excited and bore a powerful testimony afterward. She had to get dunked three times because of some errors but besides that everything ran smoothly. Then the next day she was confirmed, and thus we have a new member in the church. Besides the baptism the week went kind of slowly, we didn’t have district council because Elder Taylor got dengue fever, and we had trouble finding people interested in our message, but the baptism at the end of the week really helped this week be memorable for me.

I love seeing baptisms, it’s a chance to see someone be washed of their sins, and make a covenant with the Lord to be a disciple of Jesus Christ. I played the piano for the baptism, and while playing I pondered of the words of the 2nd verse:

I know when I am baptized my wrongs are washed away, And I can be forgiven and improve myself each day.

I want my life to be as clean as earth right after rain. I want to be the best I can and live with God again.

I like the line, “And I can be forgiven and improve myself each day.” Baptism isn’t a one-off event that we do and afterwards, forget about and continue on with our lives. It’s a commitment to be better, to continue to act afterwards and to become more like Christ every day. I’ve seen the importance of living in harmony with your baptismal covenants during my mission, and I hope all of you can take some time to reflect on your baptismal covenants and evaluate how you are doing in regards to following them.

That’s it from me, see you next week!
